Today, my family and I decided to go to a new state park today. I have one child that is not a particular fan of hiking in general. With the kids now on spring break from school, I decided to go on a family hike to a new park called Ravine Gardens State Park. Located in Palatka, FL, is known for the azalea festival with azaleas blooming all through out the trails.
I was also using this opportunity of family time to review the new generation 3 version of the Polaroid Now camera. Check under the review section to find what my over all thoughts are for the gen 3 Now camera.

This was the first photo I took with the Now + and the flash was on. I knew the sun was going to be tricky today with a mix of shadows and highlights from the sun. I really liked this sign, so I had to take it, picture that is! The flash being closer up was too much.

After I saw the outcome of the first picture of the sign from mid morning, I had to take it again without the flash in the mid afternoon. I definitely like this one better, but highlights are very washed out to help preserve the shadows. Over-all I think it worked well for this image.

While walking along the little ravine stream, I saw this tree that looked it it got struck by lightning and looked very interesting as a subject. I wanted to test the camera shooting in the sky with the sun right on the top part of the tree. The sky turned out well and the shadows were again preserved well with the highlights completely blown out.

I did the same thing with this tree as I did with the sign from above. Took this mid afternoon shooting more into the sun higher in the sky as before. You can see here that the difference is significant with the shadows more crushed but the sky seems to be blown out as well. I know shooting more in the direction of the sun is not ideal shooting instant film, but hey, wanted to see how this camera was able to meter.

Here are one of many stone pathway steps leading to other trails and some suspension bridges

Walking through a arch bridge over the little ravine. Having all three of my children looking over the bridge. You can see the hard shadows and highlights are still pretty blown out. Sun was a little higher and coming from more of the side. I am fairly happy with this

Well, I tried to get a little closer to get a trio of not quite budded azalea flowers. Forgot of the minimum focus distance of this camera, or it may have missed focus and hit the firms instead of the flower that was in the middle of the frame. Flower was also blower put, probably because it metered off the focus point of the ferns.

Added this dark slide from changing to another film pack, thought it relevant while hiking off the beaten path.

This photo I really like how it turned out overall. This is a picture of my 12 year old son taking a picture with his newly acquired Polaroid one step from 1978. Trying to teach him a few things. Again we see the highlights are overblown but the shadows seemed to be retained pretty well. I know instant film has very little dynamic range.

This photo was of one of the suspension bridges to walk across. This scene was more shady with a little light coming through. It did not seem to handle this very well with blown out highlights again.

Here is the last photo from this little trip to the gardens. This was a little water fountain amongst a nice brick walkway and flowers, it was a very pretty area especially in the spring time in Florida. There were times I wanted to under expose and there is no switch for on the fly adjustment of this exposure control. This was very annoying. So for this I had to go to the app in aperture priority mode to be able to adjust the exposure compensation. I took this down -1 stop on the exposure. Turned out fairly well, but still a little over exposed. Of course, my son decided to stay in my frame.
My Family and I had a great time hiking and spending time with my family. I enjoyed shooting some pictures and hope you enjoyed this little journey with me as well. Coming up, I will be writing a full review of the gen 3 Now +
